Ever inserted a USB thumb drive or external hard drive into your computer and realize the device did not appear under MY COMPUTER? Most likely Window has assign it a drive letter which was already assigned to a different device that is in use. The solution is to locate the device under COMPUTER MANAGEMENT and assign it different drive letter not in use.
To locate the missing drive in COMPUTER MANAGEMENT, right click on MY COMPUTER and select MANAGE.

One the left pane, select DISK MANAGEMENT. This will display all physical drives currently connected to the computer. It also displays information for the drive such as file type (NTFS or FAT), drive size and also current state of the drive. The invisible drive which was not seen under MY COMPUTER will typically be the one that does not have drive letter assign to it similar to DISK 2 THUMP
To enable the drive and have it visible under MY COMPUTER, we need to assign a drive letter for it. Right click on the drive and select CHANGE DRIVE LETTER AND PATH.
Next press ADD and assign it a drive letter from the list of available alphabet letters on the drop down menu. Notice only letters that have not been assigned are available to use. In this example we will assign the letter F. Afterward press OK to complete the process.
Drive letter F should have been assigned to DISK 2 THUMP and the drive is now visible under MY COMPUTER
