In this simple tutorial, we will show you how to customize Windows 7 login screen using the ‘REGISTRY EDITOR’. There are third-party software out there that can accomplish this but if you don’t want to install additional software, this method will also work.

Begin by opening the ‘REGISTRY EDITOR’. Simplest way to open this is by typing ‘REGEDIT’ in the ‘RUN’ command.

Now right-click on ‘HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE’ and select ‘FIND’. Search for ‘OEMBackground’

If the search returns with no result, just create a new ‘DWORD’ value in ‘HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background’ and label it ‘OEMBackground’.

Double click the entry and change the value from 0 to 1.

Navigate to ‘C:\WINDOWS\system32\oobe’. Create a new folder and label it ‘info’. Open the folder and create a another folder within ‘info’ and label this ‘backgrounds’. Rename the desire wallpaper to ‘backgroundDefault.jpg’ and place it inside this folder. (note: the image has to be less than 254KB in size). Restart the computer and enjoy.

Enjoy….
